solutions for analyzer applications tend to be unique to each
application because of the requirements for pressurized enclosure
having an internal source of flammable gas or vapour release.
Some questions that arise include the following:
The containment system, is there no release, limited release or
unlimited release of gas ?
What is the maximum pressure in the containment system ?
If there is a release, what gas or gases will be seen and at what
percentage and flow rate ?
Is there air or oxygen in the sample ?
Is there a flame in the analyzer ?
These are just some of the questions to be asked.
The IEC & European standards for Purge and Pressurization are
IEC/EN 60079-2. Equipment designed to this concept is suitable for
use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous locations.
The USA standard for Purge and Pressurization is NFPA 496. Equipment
designed to this concept is suitable for use in Class I, Division 1
or 2 hazardous locations.
