Working with a leading manufacturer of industrial heating systems to develop a large, multi-compartment Ex p panel.

Project brief

• The client required a very large purged and pressurised enclosure to contain the control systems and thyristors for a large heating application in a hazardous area.

Challenges:

• Design and construct a large multi-compartment Ex p enclosure suitable for a wide operating temperature range of  -20 to +70^oC
• Bespoke door-mounting arrangement required for client’s certified buttons and lamps. 
• Thyristors have a high heat output, so a special cooling solution was required.
• IECEx certification was required for zone 2

Outcome:

• A heavy-duty, 4 door enclosure, with a custom internally mounted X-purge system for elevated external temperature operation
• Certified internal anti-frost heating for low temperature system starts
• Special non-gland cable transit system
• An IECEx approved air conditioning unit installed to remove the high internal heat load
• Certification: IECEx
