Working with the world’s leading magnetic bearings manufacture to develop a UL compliant hazardous area control system.

Project brief: 

• To develop a UL compliant purged & pressurized enclosure for a high-powered magnetic bearing control system

Challenges:

• Create a standardised enclosure design that was suitable for a wide range of low & high-temperature ambient conditions
• Many of the internal components were heavy, requiring complex and precise mounting arrangements
• The core control module had a high heat output when in operation
• The requirement to use all UL approved components to ensure acceptance in the North American market

Outcome:

• A heavy-duty, insulated UL approved 4X enclosure, with a custom internally mounted purge system, suitable for installation with low ambient temperatures
• A UL approved air conditioning unit installed for installations with high ambient temperatures
• Certification: UL
