Working with a specialized projects company to upgrade natural gas processing facilities for a global oil & gas company
Background & Project Brief
Our client, a specialised engineering projects company based on Australia, needed to install new compressor controls equipment which required a large corrosion resistant enclosure to give easy access for commissioning, maintenance and repairs. The location would be in an IECEx Zone 2 environment. The panel also needed wireless communication for vibration and temperature sensors to assist with predictive maintenance.
Challenges
- Variety of equipment to be installed in IECEx Zone 2 including a large HMI
- Inclusion of batteries requiring special assessment
- Need to meet the requirement of shutdown period
- Thermal management
Outcome
- A joint feasibility study was carried out with the client, prior to agreeing the final enclosure design.
- Expo built two large double door enclosures, using 3mm 316L stainless steel to meet the required specifications and timescale. Although a Zone 2 application, each enclosure was fitted with a type X purge system and interface unit to give the end-users a greater level of control.
- After shipment to Australia, the customer will install the compressor control, and then the enclosures will be inspected & certified by Expo.
